This book is some sense summarizes a long-lasting discussion about the character of religious community, which was headed by poet Sappho in Lesbos. The comprehensive analysis of the sources allows to conclude, that the poet was a priestess of Artemis Thermia, and that she was bound with her by ties of “sacred marriage”.
